The fear that one has when you are traveling using a bicycle is whether it is safe. It is common knowledge that bikes are expensive these days. This means it is an investment just like your car. There will be other problems that will be problematic other than losing your bike.
Below is how you can reduce the headaches that would present themselves when you travel with your bike.
Enter the hotel with your bike if it is allowed – in the areas where mountain bikes are common you should bring your bike into your room. You will not worry about where your bike is as it will be in your eyesight.
Lock your bike inside the cars boot – if it is not allowed to come with your bike into the hotel room you can lock it inside your cars boot. If your car is small this might be a problem but much easier with a SUV. If your car has tinted windows onlookers will not be able to see what is inside your car.
Locking the bike – if it is impossible to get inside your car or hotel room with the bicycle, lock it tightly and not the way you would when stopping briefly. Lock it in such a way that an opportunist cannot easily grab it and run away.
Ensure you park it close to light especially near your front door.
Carry all your keys and do not leave any of them inside your car.
Another important thing to note is that you should be in the cars boot and not at the roof rack. The racks create resistance to wind meaning you use more gas and have longer drives. Roof racks are ideal for short distances. It is also a lot safer when your bike is in your car’s rear than on the roof rack.
